   INSPIRATION - REACHING FOR THE STARS

Question -1  How did Kalpana's life take shape ? Discuss her early life and reaching out to NASA.

Ans: Kalpana Chawla was born on 17 March 1962 in Karnal, Hariyana. She was born in a very conservative society but she broke several traditions to become the first Indian - born female astronaut. Received school education and after earning degrees in aeronautical engineering, she pursed a master's and later a Ph.D. in aerospace engineering. Chawla held a certified flight instructor rating for airplanes gliders and commercial pilot licenses for single and multi-engine airplanes, Seaplanes and gliders. After becoming a naturalized u.s citizen in April 1991, she applied for NASA astronaut corps. 

            In November 1997, Kalpana was given the chance she had dreamed about and lived for all her life. she was to go into space as one of the six crew members on board the Columbia shuttle's STS - 87 mission.

Ans : She was a shy but cheerful girl with boundless energy and strong inclination for adventure even at a very young age the small - built girl with dark eyes and a bright smile impressed people around her with remarkable determination as well as her strong sense of commitment to work and people. 

           It is indeed a mark of Kalpana's fineness as a person that in spite of her hectic schedule at NASA and the pressures of her life there she never forget her friends or the institutions that she had been associated with.she always kept in touch and took them along in path of glory. 

           Kalpana Chawla was a truly remarkable woman who presented a rare combination of a brilliant mind and a intensely human spirit. She will remain a part of the world's heritage for the extraordinary will power and during that she showed in her attempt to reach for the stars.

  

Question -3 Discuss the social barriers and restrictions you have faced to date.

Ans: There are so many difficulties. Just like bird in a cage is treated as if it does not have the freedom to fly freely. There is no permission to take any decision yourself., everything has to be done by asking. 

            

Question-4 Does Kalpana's life inspire you? How ?

Ans : To work hard to work with full effort in the face of any difficulties. Also, sticking to one's goals with complete dedication is an inspiration to me. I saw her strength it inspired me a lot. Also, her hard work and dedication.
